Scale of node size is peculiar

It seems like the node sizing is a peculiar beast. Nodes of size 1 are of an order of magnitude smaller than nodes of size 1.3, let alone nodes of size 5 or six. Meanwhile, it is possible to create a node of size 100 which is so massive I can't even see the borders of it when my screen is maximized.

It seems, based on the polar coordinates update, that there is some work on the sizes going on behind the scenes. I'm interested in learning about the logic of the sizing.
