Word associations rather than people associations on NodeXl?

Nov 14, 2016 at 10:16 AM
Can anyone help with creating a semantic network for word frequency, links to other words etc rather than the people who post on certain subjects? I am not interested in people relationships just the word connections, but a have no idea how to produce this - are there any step by step guides?
Thanks a lot

Thank you for the interest in NodeXL!

Yes! NodeXL has a feature that can allow for the exploration of semantic networks that are extracted from social media networks.

If NodeXL Graph Metrics are run for "Words and Word Pairs" then NodeXL will create a worksheet to report the frequency of mention of each word and each pair of frequently co-occurring words.

Each pair of words is reported with:
Word 1, Word 2, Count, Salience, Mutual Information, Group
The "Word Pairs" worksheet contains the data that is needed to export the semantic network to another NodeXL workbook for separate analysis.

To export this data, follow these steps.
  1. Open a blank NodeXL workbook.
  2. Open the NodeXL workbook that contains the word pairs of interest to you.
  3. Switch to the empty, blank NodeXL workbook from step#1.
  4. Select NodeXL>Data>Import>From Open Workbook
  5. Use the dialog box to select which of the columns will be imported and associated with the edge. Word 1 is Vertex 1, Word 2 is Vertex 2. The other values could be used as edge weights or strength values.
  6. Run network and content analysis in NodeXL again to visualize the new semantic network.
