Failure to install NodeXL office 2013 windows 7

Dec 10, 2014 at 1:55 PM
Hello,

I've been trying to install NodeXL on my computer but don't succeed. I have been following several of the suggestions, with no success, including the Installation of the visual studio 2010.
I've also open RegEdit to check on the vsto runtime setup. it's V4 and the Install value is 1. It was somewhere suggested to change it to 0, but with, what seems, another version (v9.0.21022), therefore I have not done it.

The error message is
An error occurred trying to download 'http://www.nodexlgraphgallery.org/NodeXLSetup/Smrf.NodeXL.ExcelTemplate.vsto'.
See the setup log file located at 'C:\Users\Cecile\AppData\Local\Temp\VSD2164.tmp\install.log' for more information.

Hello Cecile,

thank you for using NodeXL!

The new setup of NodeXL is a ClickOnce setup and during installation it needs to communicate with a server (www.nodexlgraphgallery.org) to download the NodeXL files. From the error you pasted here it seems like the ClickOnce setup can not communicate with the server. Somethings you can try:
  1. Be sure to be connected to the internet
  2. Disable any firewall/antivirus until the setup has finished
  3. If you are on a corporate network contact the network administrator to help you

Hi Arber,

thank you very much for your answer.

Unfortunatly, even after I disabled both the firewall and antivirus, I still have the same problem. I'm not on a corporate network and have administrator rights on my computer.
I've checked the web on ClickOnce installation problems to solve mine. Seems like an endless list of problems linked to it with windows, and I'm not that computer literate.

Would you have a plan B?

Hi Gary,
I've asked on a ClickOnce developper forum and they suggested the following solution, that unfortunatly did not work for me, but you might want to give it a try:

Based on the error message, it seems that it couldn't access that url when downloaing that file.
To narrow down this issue, I would recommend you check the following suggestions.
You could open that link with Internet Explorer to check whether you could access that link.
If not, then try to disable your firewall, anti-virus and reopen that url.
If possible, you could clear the option "Warn if changing between secure and not secure mode" from your Internet Explorer(IE) Tools--Internet Options--- Advanced--Security.

It really seems that this is a "security" problem.

As an update I can also say that I succeeded in installing NodeXL on my old computer, with windows 7 and office 2010. That's my solution for now, but I would really like to find out what is going on.
Please, keep us informed if you find a solution on your side,
Regards,
Cécile

I have solved the problem.

I downloaded the program on my old computer with windows7 and office 2010 where it was working. I made one analysis with NodeXL on this computer and saved the file. I transfered the file on my new computer, opened it with excel 2013 and It downloaded and installed the program via Excel automatically.
