Problems Installing NodeXL

May 23, 2009 at 9:58 PM

I am not able to Install NodeXL. I have Windows Vista and Word 2007 - but everytime I try to install the program I get the message that the file  Microsoft Visual Studio Tools Application Server Document v9.0 could not be found and therefore the program cannot be installed. Can you help me with this problem?

I haven't seen this problem before, so it may take a bit of detective work.  First, a few questions:

1. You meant to say "Excel 2007," correct?  NodeXL requires Excel 2007; Word 2007 alone will not suffice.

2. Are you running Setup.exe from the Zip file, or Dnrd.msi?  I ask because attempting to run Dnrd.msi instead of Setup.exe might cause this problem.  ("Dnrd" stands for "do not run directly.")

3. Is the message you quoted above the very first error message that appears when you attempt to run Setup.exe?

4. Are you running Windows Vista on a Mac?

Thanks,

Yes, I meant "Excel 2007", sorry my mistake. I do not have a Mac.  I tried both ways Setup.exe and Dnrd. msi and I get the message both times and yes it is the first message. Thanks, Julia

I have tried the intallation again and I still get the following message:

Component Visual Studio Tools for the Office system 3.0 Runtime Service Pack 1
has failed to install with the following error message:
"Dieser Vorgang ist nur fr Produkte gltig, die zurzeit installiert sind. "
("this process is only valid for products which are currently installed")

The following components failed to install:
- Visual Studio Tools for the Office system 3.0 Runtime Service Pack 1

See the setup log file located at
'C:\Users\JULIAH~1\AppData\Local\Temp\VSDE8CA.tmp\install.log' for more
information.

Julia:

Thanks for the additional details.  The message tells me that the NodeXL setup program is trying to install some required Microsoft software but is unable to, for some unknown reason.  There are two things we can do to try to fix it.  Let's start with the first.

Please do the following, which should install the missing software:

* Click the Download button.

* You will be asked whether you want to run or save "vstor30sp1-KB949258-x86.exe."  Save it somewhere.

* Go to where you saved it, and double-click it.  It will install the "Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System (version 3.0 Runtime) Service Pack 1".  It should be pretty fast.

* If you get an error message at this point, tell me what it is.

* Otherwise, run the NodeXL setup again.

Thanks,
    Tony

Thanks for this hint
I installed "Microsoft Visual Studio Tools
for the Microsoft Office System (version 3.0 Runtime)"
and "Microsoft Visual Studio Tools
for the Microsoft Office System (version 3.0 Runtime) Service Pack 1"
and then I was able to intall NodeXL.
Thanks for your help!!
