How to pull the whole of a Twitter Network?

Hi guys,

How is it possible to pull the whole of a Twitter network rather than just a sample?

I've just tried to pull one through NodeXL now to visualise it but it only brings 2,000 followers out of 90,000.

How do I view the whole of the network of Twitter followers in Node XL?

The network you describe is probably not possible to get or visualize with NodeXL.

Twitter significantly limits access to the Follow network.

NodeXL will get up to the most recent 2,000 followers.

For details, see:

Given the time constraints on access NodeXL will not attempt to collect a complete follower network (which might take years to complete).

In general, social media network analysis of Twitter must focus on the active connections ("reply" and "mention") rather than the passive connections like "follow".

Thanks for this Marc.

Would it be possible to pull the whole network by being a Twitter enterprise user? Startups such as Tweetdeck can clearly pull data beyond the Twitter rate limits so do you know if it's possible to pull the whole network if you were in a position like Tweetdeck are with better data access?

Yes! We have had success taking the output of commercial data providers and reformatting the data for network analysis in NodeXL.

However, each service is a bit different and we have had to build a special importer for each data source. These converters have not yet been made ready for end users, put we do have plans to do so in the future.
