In-degree calculation

I'm analyzing scientists citation network. I will use in-degree metric to optimize graph. But it seems, that in-degree isn't calculated right. I.e. one person recieved 106 citations, but in column I see only 36. I suppose NodeXl is counting only unique edges, but I need all edges be counted. What is possible solutions?

NodeXL is not counting only unique edges. Here is a description of how it calculates in-degree, which it does for directed graphs only:

"In a directed graph, a vertex's in-degree is the number of incoming edges incident to the vertex. A self-loop in a directed graph is counted once as an incoming edge (in-degree) and once as an outgoing edge (out-degree)."

I believe NodeXL is calculating in-degree correctly.

Can you provide more details on what you are attempting to count?
