Comprehensive guide on how to edit NodeXL Options file?

Oct 11, 2013 at 10:15 PM
I downloaded a nodexloptions file from NodeXL Graph Gallery and am trying to customize it. I can't however understand certain parts.

For instance, the previous user's ID, map explanations, etc. are still there, making me feel I'm using someone else's dataset. But when I use the nodexloptions file for automate, map uploading purposes, etc., it's working properly for my work.

Is there any comprehensive guide on how to edit the NodeXLOptions file? I couldn't find any here or anywhere else after quite many times of querying.

Thanks in advance.

Hello!

Thank you for the interest in the NodeXL project!

You have imported another user's options file and some of their settings remain. Note: passwords are not stored with the options file, so your passwords will not be shared.

You should clear the title and network description from the prior user.

You can then use the NodeXL>Options>Use Current for New feature to set the new options as the default settings.

You can then save the new options by selecting NodeXL>Options>Export. Give the new recipe file a name and store it somewhere on your local file system.

You can find several posts that describe the use of options files here:

Thanks a lot!

I tested importing and exporting various options myself, and got what I needed. Will read the past postings and better understand the options file.

Also, go to NodeXL, Help, Help in the ribbon and see the "Working with Options" topic.
