Problem with your Twitter search function for user names description

I have noticed a problem with searching for user names using the "Search From Twitter Search Network" and clicking to include "tweets," "replies," and "mentions."

In particular, for example, a search for something like @nytimes might capture a tweet like this: "I don't agree with this! “@nytimes: US considering invading Syria!!” but it will be categorized as a "tweet" and not a "mention."

The problem here is that this should be considered a mention. But it comes up as a "Tweet that is not a "replies-to" or "mentions" -- and it appears that this happens because of the quotation mark before @nytimes. It seems that you would want to fix this to allow for a tweet like this to be considered a mention.

Thanks!

The problem you are describing should go away if you download the latest version of NodeXL. The bug was fixed earlier this month. From the release notes for version 1.0.1.148:
  • "When it looks for user names in tweets, NodeXL now ignores most punctuation. For example, the user name "john" in the tweet "Hello,@john" wasn't being detected, because it was preceded by a comma instead of a space."
Thanks for reporting this.
