Facebook Import Error

Aug 28, 2013 at 4:11 PM
Hi, I'm getting an error message when trying to import facebook networks, chrome is my default browser, if I need to change my IE proxy settings, could you suggest what to change it to?

The error message starts with: The network couldn't be obtained. Details: [FacebookAPIEXception]:https://api.facebook.com...... and ends with ...The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error.

I don't think it's a proxy problem. The importer is successfully reaching Facebook, but Facebook is telling the importer that Facebook is having an "internal server" problem. In other words, it looks like something is wrong at Facebook.

It could just have been a temporary issue. If it persists, I would suggest posting your question at http://socialnetimporter.codeplex.com/discussions. That's the home of the group that created the Facebook importer, and they might know more about what's wrong. (The importer is actually a "plug-in", and not part of NodeXL itself.)

Thanks for your reply. I've been getting this error for over a week now and had hoped to use the facebook importer in a class assignment, but I have not heard back from the that group through the forums. I may proceed with an alternative tool.

All the best,

A revised version of the tool with a possible fix for the issue has just been updated.

We will post the new code shortly at http://socialnetimporter.codeplex.com/

Sorry that the vacation season has slowed responses!
