NodeXL will not open graph view - new install

May 23, 2012 at 4:17 PM

I have just installed NodeXL v210 on a clean install of Windows 7, fully patched, with a clean install of Office 2010 (custom, just installed Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and shared items). I downloaded the sample data files, and tried to open them.

When I do, NodeXL partially loads (opens the data files) but when it is building the graph window, it crashes. I have ensured that the .NET Programmability Support is installed on this computer. This is the error message I get:

Assertion Failed: Abort=Quit, Retry=Debug, Ignore=Continue

at ThisWorkbook.ShowAndHideColumnGroups()

at ThisWorkbook.ThisWorkbook_Startup(Object sender, EventArgs e)

at Workbook.OnStartup()

at ThisWorkbook.FinishInitialization()

at AddIn.Adapter.ExecutePhase(ExecutionPhases executionPhases)

at AddInAdapter.CompleteInitialization()

at OfficeAddInAdapterBase.ExecuteEntryPointsHelper()

at OfficeAddInAdapterBase.ExecuteEntryPoints()

at AddInHostAdapter.ExecuteEntryPoints()

I would appreciate any help in troubleshooting this installation. TIA!

Someone else ran into that problem, too, and I haven't yet figured out the cause.  It only occurs on some computers, and unfortunately it doesn't occur on any of mine.  (I'm the NodeXL programmer.)

Can you create a new, empty NodeXL workbook?  (Search for NodeXL in the Windows Start Menu.)  If so, the only workaround I have for the moment is for you to manually copy the sample workbook contents into a new NodeXL workbook.

I'll look into this some more and see if I can figure out what's going on.
