Mapping a Skills Network?

May 28, 2011 at 5:25 PM

I have been using NodeXL to create a skills network for an organization.  Vertex column 1 represents people.  Vertex column 2 represents the skills in categories that people selected from a survey.  The circle graph output gives interesting output.  Has anyone tried any similar analyses - mapping people and skills or areas of knowledge?

Hello!

Thank you for the interest in NodeXL!

I have not tried the type of data and analysis you describe yet.  Can you post some images of the data?

I do have one idea, however.  May I suggest that you try placing the people and the skills in different "Groups" and then using Group Layout to place vertices of each type in separate regions of the network visualization?

Thanks Marc,

Here is link to my Picasa page with an image and description of this network map:

I will try the "Groups" layout.

Pete,

Google "Two-mode social networks" and you will get any number of
references on the analysis of the type of network you have.
