If you attempt to use NodeXL within Parallels Desktop running on a Mac, you may get an error message when you open the NodeXL template from the Windows Start menu.  The error message includes this text:

"Invalid URI: The hostname could not be parsed"

This bug is caused by an incompatibility between Parallels Desktop and one of the underlying Microsoft technologies that NodeXL uses.

To fix the problem, do the following:

1. In Parallels Desktop, go to Virtual Machine Configuration.

2. Under Features, Shared Profile, uncheck "Enabled."

3. Restart Parallels Desktop.
